YEMIN ORDE, Israel (Press Release) — For Ethan, Yemin Orde’s 14-year-old artistic wonder, strengthening his confidence by expressing himself through his beautiful original oil paintings was important to helping him excel in his studies. Eitan and his family arrived in Israel from a small town in northwest France when he was a youngster.
He enrolled in elementary school shortly after moving to Jerusalem and did not have the benefit of learning Hebrew before he started classes. In the classroom, without having sufficient language skills, Eitan’s attention drifted and he was unable to follow instructions or the day’s lessons.
In September 2013, Yemin Orde welcomed its first group of French-speaking teens to the Village. Fortunately, Ethan was among this group and he has been painting ever since!
Recently, the Village hosted an exhibit of Ethan’s incredible and haunting paintings. The exhibit also eitan-webb included the artistic talent of other kids and will stay on display in the Village’s dining room for several weeks.
Ethan did not always have a means of expressing himself, particularly as a new immigrant. But at Yemin Orde, he was surrounded by a loving and supportive community and felt free to draw and reveal his creative nature. Soon, the staff recognized the artistry and depth of Ethan’s work and realized his paintings and subject matter were the works of an extraordinarily talented child.
The theme of Ethan’s paintings primarily center around the Holocaust and Israel. He spends much of his free time at the Art Center and his work – mature beyond his years – shows great sensitivity and potential.
With the self-confidence he’s gained as an artist, Ethan is also excelling in his other studies as well, including math and Hebrew.
Yemin Orde is a global Village with at-risk children from more than 20 different countries, including Ethiopia, former Soviet Union, Poland, Brazil, Darfur and more. Introducing many different cultures to children at the Village provides them with a more comprehensive worldview and reinforces the Village Way principle of respect for others while embracing one’s own traditions and identity.
